Wagamama
I used to eat at Wagamama all the time and loved it. But after being Diagnosed with coeliac Disease I visited Wagamama in Sydney and found out that I could only eat one item on the menu and it was far from the best dish I had had there. So I didn’t go back for many years. However the other day my friend and I needed to catch a quick bite to eat in London before heading to a musical so we decided to visit Wagamama. When greeted by the host I asked him if there was a Gluten free menu and he said there was and to talk to my Waitress. The waitress brought me over the Allergy information booklet and mentioned that the only dish that was Gluten free (what they call Cereal free) was the item however many of the other dishes could be modified to be cereal free. Because we were in a bit of a hurry I didn’t have time to compare the allergy information booklet with the menu so decided on the prawn itame (rice Noodles in a spicy green coconut and lemongrass soup topped with prawns, beansprouts, chillies, red and spring onions, bok choi, peppers and mushrooms and garnished with coriander and lime). The itame was actually really tasty and even though at the beginning it wasn’t exactly the type of dish I wanted, it was very satisfying. Next time I go to Wagamama and have more time I will definitely try another dish that can be modified to be Gluten free. When you are going to modify a meal there is another booklet you can ask to see which shows what the modifications are. If it means you can’t have the sauce they do have gluten free soy sauce they can bring you. The great thing about Wagamama is they have Certain staff who are qualified to take the allergy orders (you Normal server can’t do this) to ensure that no cross Contamination occurs and that you order something that you can actually eat! Wagamama has Restaurants in Australia, NZ, Europe, UK, USA and the Middle East. Check out their menu and locations here. My prawn itame
