The Queens Garden Party
I was lucky enough to be invited to the Queens Garden Party through the New Zealand Embassy. My friend and I had been looking forward to this day since we received the invitation a couple of months ago. We had so many things to organise; what dress to wear, to wear a hat or a fascinator, what shoes would impress the queen but not ruin her gardens too much! The day finally arrived yesterday and whilst the weather wasn’t very good nothing was going to dampen our spirits, we were off to meet the queen! One thing I didn’t have high hopes about was being able to eat the Afternoon Tea at the Garden Party. As a precaution my friend and I had lunch before setting off to Buckingham Palace. After entering through Buckingham Palace we arrived in the gardens with marquees set up and tables and chairs where people sat to eat their finger sandwiches and cake and drink their tea.As my friend and I got towards the front of the line for tea, I noticed a few people were being given special plates of Afternoon Tea. I secretly hoped that it was a gluten free option, and was very happy when I found out it was.The gluten free option included some ham and tomato finger sandwiches on white and brown gluten free bread, chocolate cake, lemon cake and some strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Everything was delicious including the tea and iced coffee. After we had our Afternoon Tea the Queen made her grand entrance and whilst we didn’t get to speak to her we got quite close which was exciting. We then wandered around the gorgeous gardens before indulging in a little more tea and cake!It was an amazing experience and I am very grateful to those who decided to provide a gluten free option! My gluten free Afternoon Tea
