Matsuri, Surry Hills

After being diagnosed with coeliac disease one of my work collegaues at the time told me I had to visit Wafu, a Japanese restaurant Surry Hills, where the entire menu is gluten free! I had a look at their website and noticed that they have a number of policies for dining there (e.g. do not waste food, bring your own containers for take away food etc..) and also that they basically aren’t taking new customers unless you come with a member. However I noticed on their website that they have another restaurant, Matsuri, also in Surry Hills where the menu is also 100% gluten free (as well as being dairy and MSG free & no use of refined sugar. My friend was visiting from Melbourne for the weekend and since I had been meaning to try Matsuri for months I suggested that we visit for dinner.I was a little overwhelmed (in a good way) when I saw the menu knowing that I could eat absolutely everything! I therefore decided on one of the combination boxes. There were three different options and I chose the one with sushi.

One of Matsuri's 100% gluten free combination meals One of Matsuri's 100% gluten free combination mealsThe meal consisted of teriyaki chicken with brown rice (you can have white if you want), steamed vegetables, salmon and tuna sushi, seaweed salad, tempura seafood and vegetables and tofu. It was amazing, how I have missed going out and being able to eat anything (and in this case almost everything) on the menu.Matsuri did not disappoint, the food was delicious. My friend also highly enjoyed her combination box saying that it tasted very fresh and healthy.I am sure this will become a regular dinner spot for me.What do you crave since going gluten free?
