Gluten free bagels

I was so excited when I found out that Well & Good, a company who make gluten free baking mixes, had a packet mix to make bagels. I used to love bagels and it was one of the foods I have missed since going gluten free. You can make a number of different types of bread from Well & Good’s Crusty Bread Mix including ciabatta, Vienna, baguettes, challah bread and of course bagels! They are very easy to make, all you do is add oil and water to the provided yeast and bread mix. You then mix either by hand or using an electric mixer (I did this by hand), knead it for 4 1/2 minutes and divide it into sections (depending on what sized bagels you would like – I divided it into four sections however this makes rather large bagels and I would probably make five or six next time , and yes there definitely will be a next time!).It is at this point of the process that you decide whether you would like to flavour the bagels. I made four different flavours; plain, multigrain, cinnamon and raisin, and chocolate chip. I was so excited when I pulled the bagels out of the oven, they looked and smelt amazing.

For the multigrain bagel I added a couple of teaspoons of LSA (a mix of crushed linseed’s, sesame seeds and almonds), a handful of chocolate chips (or as many you would like) for the chocolate chip bagel and a handful of raisins and cinnamon to taste for, you guessed it, the raisin and cinnamon bagel! The bagels before they have been left to riseIf you want to eat the bagels the next day you will need to toast them, however they still taste great.I had my multigrain bagel for lunch, toasted with cheese, ham and chilli jam.

Lunch! Lunch! The Crusty Bread Mix as well as being gluten free is also dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, soya and fructose free, has no artificial flavours or colours and is halal and Kosher! Well & Good have a number of other baking mixes including a muffin mix, cake mix, cupcake mix, marble cake mix, sponge cake mix, cookie mix, classic bread mix and self raising flour. The Crusty Bread Mix used was provided by Well & Good
