Easter review: Gluten free Hot Cross Buns (Australia)
One of my favourite things about Easter time is Hot Cross Buns. This is funny because I went through a stage where I would only eat fruit free Hot Cross Buns as I hated the taste of cooked raisins (if you are like this there are a few options for you below!).Luckily in Australia there are a number of companies that make gluten free Hot Cross Buns (it seems they aren’t as easy to find in Canada – so if anyone knows where I can get them here please let me know!).Here is a run down of some of the options out there:Silly YaksSilly Yaks has two varities of gluten free Hot Cross Buns, traditional and fruit free (fructose friendly). Last year their Hot Cross Buns were awarded an overall mark of B by the Herald Sun in a competitive taste test, the same score given to Bakers Delight’s glutenous Hot Cross Buns (check out the review here). Silly Yaks’ Hot Cross Buns are available from their factory outlet store in Coburg North, Victoria and also from a variety of stockists in Victoria and itnterstate (find out if there is a stockist near you here).Silly Yaks' gluten free hot cross bunsGlutenfree BakeryGlutenfree Bakery also has two options for gluten free hot cross buns, a traditional and a chocolate variety. Stockists can be found all over Australia (check here to see if there is one near you).Glutenfree Bakery's Chocolate Hot Cross BunsChoices Gluten FreeI can actually comment on the taste of these ones as I tried them a couple of years ago – and they were very yummy! Choices has traditional hot cross buns as well as chocolate ones. You can visit one of Choices NSW stores to pick up the hot cross buns (Turramurra, Bella Vista, Bondi Junction, Mona Vale, Sutherland Shire) or order online and get them delivered to your home (no minimum order) if you live in NSW, ACT, VIC or QLD. More info here.Choices' gluten free Hot Cross BunsSimply WizeI blogged about how good Simply Wize Hot Cross Buns were last year and the good news is that this year they are the same. You can check out my last years review here and/or read more about the Hot Cross Buns on Momentun Foods’ website.Simply Wize gluten free Hot Cross BunsLifestyle BakeryI also blogged about Lifestyle Bakery’s Hot Cross Buns last year and I have been told by the company that their recipe remains the same this year. As mentioned in last years review these are more of a cake texture rather than bread – however they are delicious in their different way. You can purchase these Hot Cross Buns online (the postage is free if you live in an Australian metro location and ordwer 6 or more products) or check if there is a stockist near you.Lifestyle Bakery's gluten free Hot Cross BunsHot Cross Buns recipeIf you want to make your own Hot Cross Buns you can always check out my recipe for gluten free hot cross buns.Let me know which is your favourite Hot Cross Bun and if you have come across any that I haven’t blogged about.
